“Harry Potter” fans are one step closer to the highly anticipated TV adaptation of the popular book and film franchise.
With filming now underway for the TV series, HBO is giving fans a first look at Dominic McLaughlin in the role of Harry Potter.
On July 14, the network shared a photo of the young actor on set in his Hogwarts robe and Harry’s signature glasses.
HBO also announced in a press release that the series will premiere in 2027 and is being filmed at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the U.K.

In recent months, there have been several exciting developments for fans as HBO has put together the “Harry Potter” cast.
The network announced the casting of Harry, Ron and Hermione on May 27 after casting directors watched “tens of thousands of children” audition, according to showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod.
“The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen,” Gardiner and Mylod added in a statement.
In June, the TV series announced the casting of nine additional roles, including Draco Malfoy, Petunia Dursley, Molly Weasley and more.
The HBO series’ official description describes the project as a “faithful adaptation” of the books by J. K. Rowling.
“Exploring every corner of the wizarding world, each season will bring ‘Harry Potter’ and its incredible adventures to new and existing audiences,” HBO said in a press release.
The show, with Rowling set to serve as executive producer, also promises to “feature an exciting and talented cast to lead a new generation of fandom” and will be available exclusively on Max.
But just because new actors are taking up the mantle, the original eight films won’t be forgotten. As HBO notes, “The original, classic, and cherished films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch around the world.”
Here’s a complete list of the cast of HBO’s “Harry Potter” show, so far.
Who has been cast in HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ show?
Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter

A new boy who lived has officially been cast! Dominic McLaughlin will take over the series’ titular role from Daniel Radcliffe.
McLaughlin is a fresh face in the acting space but will most likely become a known name in the industry as he will be playing the brave Harry Potter for the next decade.
While he hasn’t been in anything released yet, his IMDb notes that on top of the “Harry Potter” casting news, he will appear in an upcoming film called “Grow” alongside Golda Rosheuvel and Nick Frost — who just so happens to be set to play Hagrid in the new adaption.
Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger

Arabella Stanton joins the cast as the inquisitive Hermione Granger. Known for her wit and bravery, Hermione constantly gets her friends out of trouble.
Stanton inherits the role from Emma Watson, who played Hermione in all eight films.
Although Stanton may be relatively new to TV, she’s been performing on the stage. Previously, she starred as Matilda in “Matilda the Musical” on the West End and played Control in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Starlight Express.”
Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley

Alastair Stout is another fresh face added to the cast, taking on the role of Harry’s loyal best friend, Ron Weasley, in the new series.
Stout, who has the requisite red hair, will don the hand-me-down robes that mark him as a Weasley, following Rupert Grint who originated the role.
According to Stout’s agency’s website, before being cast as Ron Weasley, Stout had only booked one role: the “son at dinner” in a commercial.
John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore

John Lithgow is set to take on the role of Hogwarts Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, or, as true fans know him, Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore.
Known for his roles in “The Crown” and “Conclave,” Lithgow revealed his casting to ScreenRant before HBO made it official.
“It was not an easy decision because it’s going to define me for the last chapter of my life, I’m afraid. But I’m very excited,” he told the outlet. “Some wonderful people are turning their attention back to Harry Potter. That’s why it’s been such a hard decision. I’ll be about 87 years old at the wrap party, but I’ve said yes.”
In the film adaptions, Richard Harris played Dumbledore in the first two movies until his death in October 2002. Michael Gambon then took over the role until the final film, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.” Gambon died in September 2023 at age 82.
Jude Law played a younger Dumbledore in the “Fantastic Beasts” film series.
Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall

Janet McTeer is set to step into the role of transfiguration professor Minerva McGonagall, who is also the head of Gryffindor House and the deputy headmistress.
Known for “Tumbleweeds” and “Albert Nobbs,” McTeer will step into the role previously played by Maggie Smith, who died in 2024 at age 89, as the brave, Quidditch- and-biscuit-loving McGonagall.
Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape

Paapa Essiedu has been announced to play anti-hero potions professor Severus Snape.
Snape, the head of Slytherin house, was once a childhood enemy of Harry’s dad, James, and always loved Harry’s mom, Lily. The brooding Snape was initially portrayed by Alan Rickman, who died in 2016.
Essiedu is known for “I May Destroy You” and “The Outrun.”
Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid

Nick Frost will play the pink umbrella-touting Hogwarts gamekeeper and groundskeeper Rubeus Hagrid.
Previously played by Robbie Coltrane, who died in 2022, Frost takes up the (half) giant mantel after appearing in works like “Shaun of the Dead” and “Paul.”
Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell

Luke Thallon has been cast to play professor Quirinus Quirrell.
In the first book of the series, professor Quirrell teaches Defense Against the Dark Arts, a position rumored to be cursed.
The role was initially played by Ian Hart, but the torch is now being passed to Thallon, known for “Present Laughter.”
Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch

Paul Whitehouse will take up the role of Argus Filch, the Hogwarts caretaker who seems to only have affection for his pet cat, Mrs. Norris.
The role was originated by David Bradley but will now be taken on by Whitehouse, who is known for “The Fast Show” and “The Death of Stalin.”
Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley

Katherine Parkinson will star as every “Harry Potter” fan’s favorite motherly figure: Molly Weasley.
In the books and films, Mrs. Weasley served as a surrogate maternal figure to Harry, whose own mother was killed by Voldemort when he was a baby. She was a mother to her seven children, too.
Parkinson, an English actor known for her roles in “The IT Crowd,” “Rivals” and “Doc Martin,” will be stepping into the shoes of Julie Walters, who played Weasley in the films.
Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy

The casting crew has selected Lox Pratt to play Draco Malfoy. Fans of the beloved series love to hate Hogwarts’ resident bad boy since he’s a constant thorn in Harry’s side.
Tom Felton, who played the role in the films, recently announced his plans to reprise the role in the Broadway production of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.”
Meanwhile, Pratt will be picking up where he left off in the new TV series. So far, the young actor only has one credit on his IMDB page: Jack in the TV series “Lord of the Flies.”
Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy

English poet, musician and actor Johnny Flynn will play Lucius Malfoy, aka the father of Draco Malfoy. The character is most known for being a Death Eater and supporter of Lord Voldemort.
Flynn’s acting credits include an appearance in “Emma,” “Stardust,” “Central Intelligence,” “Ripley” and many other projects. In the “Harry Potter” films, Jason Isaacs played the role of Lucius Malfoy. He’s since moved on to star in many titles, including “The White Lotus.”
Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan

Newcomer Leo Earley is taking on the role of Seamus Finnigan, a Hogwarts student who was in the same house (Gryffindor) and year as Harry, Hermione and Ron.
Irish actor Devon Murray first played the character in the films. Now Earley, who doesn’t appear to have any public acting credits, will get his big break as he takes on the role.
Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil

Alessia Leoni, another budding young actor, is introducing herself to the world as she portrays Parvati Patil in the new TV series.
In the films, Parvati and her twin sister Padma attend a school dance with Ron and Harry.
Shefali Chowdhury first starred as Parvati in the films, but Leoni will be lending her own flair to the role.
Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown

Sienna Moosah has scored the role of Lavender Brown, a love crazy Hogwarts student who has a crush on Ron and brews a love potion to earn his affection.
In the “Harry Potter” films, Jessie Cave portrayed the cheeky character. The website of Moosah’s management agency shows that she has appeared in a few commercials so far.
Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley

Bel Powley is preparing to portray the role of Petunia Dursley, best known as Harry’s cruel aunt and the sister of his late mother.
Petunia and her husband Vernon Dursley have one son named Dudley Dursley. After the death of Harry’s parents, the couple took him in but treated him like a housekeeper rather than a son.
Powley, an English actor known for “A Small Light,” “Diary of a Teenage Girl” and “The King of Staten Island,” is taking over for Irish actor Fiona Shaw, who starred as Petunia in the film series.
Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley

Daniel Rigby will dust off his inner curmudgeon as he takes on the role of Vernon Dursley, the husband of Petunia Dursley and uncle of Harry.
Along with his wife, Vernon is a cruel surrogate parental figure to his nephew, constantly taunting and mistreating Harry.
Rigby has several acting credits to his name, including roles in “Flowers, “I, Jack Wright,” “Eric & Ernie” and “Undercover.” The late actor Richard Griffiths originated the role of Vernon Dursley.
Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge

The casting team has found their new Cornelius Fudge in Bertie Carvel. In the films, viewers got to know the character as the Minister of Magic. He wasn’t exactly a fan favorite since he wasn’t very supportive of Harry.
Most viewers will likely recognize Carvel, a British film and theater actor, from “Dalgliesh,” “Doctor Foster,” “The Pale Horse” and “Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell.” In the original films, the late actor Robert Hardy played the character of Cornelius Fudge.
Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom

Young actor Rory Wilmot will be starring as Neville Longbottom, one of Harry’s Hogwarts schoolmates, in the new TV series. In the films, Neville’s bashful nature won the heart of fans.
Wilmot is a rising talent with a few acting credits to his name, including a role in the TV series “Out of the Dust” and a guest appearance on “FBI: International.” Matthew Lewis originally played Neville in the films.
Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley

Amos Kitson will be taking on the role of Dudley Dursley, Harry’s cousin. Dudley, a bully like his parents, taunted Harry relentlessly before he went to Hogwarts.
Harry Melling originated the role of Dudley.
